Having Our Say

By Emily Mann

Directed by Andrea J. Dymond

Based on the best-selling memoir by Sarah L. Delaney and A. Elizabeth Delaney, Having Our Say, an inspiring story of two African American sisters, was nominated for three Tony Awards, including Best Play, in 1995.

Emily Mann's play explores the sisters' history, from the Civil War to Jim Crow to the Harlem Renaissance to the present day. Faithful, courageous, and tenacious, these extraordinary women achieved great success in the face of tremendous obstacles. Theirs is the story of all of us, and of what it means to be an American.

Andrea J. Dymond, Literary Manager and Resident Director at Victory Gardens Theater in Chicago, directs Having Our Say in The Playhouse at the Overture Center for the Arts.
