The Foreigner

By Larry Shue

Directed by Ann Brietenbach

The hero is an Englishman vacationing at a guest lodge in Georgia. For unusual reasons, the man pretends to speak no English in the company of the other guests. Yet he manages to thwart villainy and skullduggery and exposes a fraudulent preacher, saves a dull-witted boy's inheritance, rescues a widow's home, solves his own personality problems, and even gets the girl! This one will have you in stitches. This comedy by Larry Shue won two Obie Awards and two Outer Critics Circle Awards as Best New American Play and Best Off-Broadway Production.
