Gertrude Stein and a Companion

By Win Wells

Directed by Roseann Sheridan

A drama that tells the story of the incredible relationship between writer-mentor-wit Gertrude Stein and the woman-behind-the-woman, Alice B. Toklas.

This memory play presents snapshots of their strong relationship across time, spanning the early 1900s through the 1960s. Through reflective and intimate storytelling, incorporating some of Gertrude Stein's own writings, the play reveals the influence Gertrude and Alice had on well-known literary and artistic figures, such as Ernest Hemingway and Pablo Picasso, and the fascinating journey of their remarkable life together.
