The Blitkz Plays

By various writers and directors

16 original plays over two nights

For the fourth year, eight writers, eight directors, a handful of technical crew members, and around 30 actors will get together to pull off the seemingly impossible: to create eight plays in 24 hours. This year, we have graduated from the impossible to the UNTHINKABLE: We're doing it two nights in a row. At 8 pm on both Thursday and Friday nights, a group of writers will meet to be assigned random topics, and write eight new plays overnight. The following morning, the plays will be assigned to directors, who will have that day to cast and direct them. At 8 pm that night, the show will go on! The Xtreme Sports of theater, previous "Blitz Plays " have thrilled and delighted participants and audiences alike. Don't miss 'em this time around.

(FYI: This year, Project: Blitzkrieg has become The “Blitz” Plays. Saying “Blitzkrieg” is just too depressing right now. “Blitz” means lightning in German. The Lightning Plays! Much more benign, and still plenty darn exciting.)

ATTENTION ALL ACTORS: If you wish to participate in The Blitz Plays this year, please come to the Bartell Theatre, 113 E. Mifflin St., on Monday or Tuesday, April 21 or April 22, anytime between 7 and 9 pm. You will be asked to fill out a form, committing to the performance on either Friday the 25th or Saturday the 26th. You will be required to give up your firstborn child if you don't show up to act that weekend. Also, we'll take a Polaroid snapshot of you.

Your commitment will be for one day, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. (ish) on the day of performance. You will be asked to learn lines. You may request a small part if you're new to acting, and we'll try to accommodate you. We are planning a musical on both nights this year, so we'll ask you if you sing. Other than that, all you've got to do is show up. Did I mention that you have to show up?

Just a reminder: All you actors who want to participate in the FRIDAY, APRIL 25 performance of The “Blitz” Plays---8 plays in 24 hours---you need to commit to all day Friday, from 10 am on. Get off work now!

See you there!
