Blitzkrieg 3-D

Produced by Buck Hakes

Is it art, sport, insanity, or all three? Either way, Mercury Players is presenting the third annual Project: Blitzkrieg 3-D; 8 plays in 24 hours. See just what a group of dedicated, ambitious, and (some would say) slightly crazy theatre people can accomplish in just one day!

Produced by Mercury Players in the Drury Theatre at the Bartell

Performances: Saturday, March 2 and Saturday, March 9, at 8pm both nights, and with a whole new slate of plays each time.

How It Works

To sum up the process: Eight writers get together at 8pm on Friday and pull titles out of a hat. They then have until 8am Saturday to write a 10-15 minute play with the title they picked (each writer gets two titles to choose from).

On Saturday, the directors show up at 9am and are assigned plays, and get about an hour to read them. At 10am the actors show up, and the plays are cast as quickly as possible. From 10-4 the casts go off and rehearse with their directors; at 4pm there's a big run-through; then at 8pm on Saturday, the curtain goes up on 8 plays that didn't exist 24 hours previously.

Writers would need to commit to the Friday night writing session (on either March 1 or March 8), from 8pm to 8am Saturday morning.  Directors and actors would commit to all day Saturday, from 9 or 10am until the show is over.
