Edgewood College's Diane Ballweg Theatre

The Stream is Edgewood College's visual and theatre arts building located on Lake Wingra and overlooking Eagle effigy mounds. It was designed by Potter Lawson and constructed by J.H. Findorff & Son in Fall 2012. Since its opening, this energy-efficient building has won 2013 Project of the Year, Best Medium Project, and Best Green Built Project at the In Business Commercial Design Awards. It has also achieved LEED certification.

Description of Performance Area

The Diane Ballweg Theatre is an acoustically isolated, energy efficient, 7,000 square foot black box theatre that includes a full catwalk system and has the capacity to hold 120 patrons in seats that were donated by individual sponsors, community members, and alums. The theatre functions as both a teaching theater and venue for public performances, about five productions per year.

Backstage Space

Adjacent to the theatre is a greenroom and student lounge space with a kitchenette. This area includes several PC computers, a library of scripts and sheet music, a couch, and a kitchenette with a fridge, microwave, coffee machine, sink, and cupboards. Also located in this are two dressing rooms, a conference room, two unisex bathrooms, and a wardrobe room. The space includes several makeup stations for use during performances. This space transforms into a backstage area for actors during performances where they are able to watch the play on monitors and communicate with crewmembers through the COM system.

Fly Space

The booth is located on the main floor and allows access to the catwalk system. This space features state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment from the Electronic Theatre Company. The full catwalk system hangs above the entirety of the Black Box Theatre and allows for easy access to lighting and sound instruments.

Lighting Equipment

The Diane Ballweg Theatre has state-of-the-art ETC equipment.

Seating Capacity

Depending on configuration, up to 140-150 seats.
