West Side Story

By Stephen Sondheim, Leonard Bernstien, Jerome Robbins, and Arthur Laurents

Directed by Artistic Director: Ray Jivoff, Music Director: Bill Lavonis, Dance Director: Darci Wutz

Musical Theatre returns to UWM with a vengence! And there is no better way to open than with the classic American musical, West Side Story, a masterpiece of storytelling, music, and dance created by Stephen Sondheim, Leonard Bernstien, Jerome Robbins, and Arthur Laurents. West Side Story, with its themes of forbidden love, revenge, and violence, is as potent now as it was when it first opened on Broadway in 1957. West Side Story features many famous songs including "Maria," "Tonight," and "I feel Pretty."

The Story:
The Sharks and the Jets are two feuding street gangs in 1950's New York, the Jets being White and the Sharks being Puerto Rican. Tony (a Jet) falls in love with a Shark's sister, Maria. They know they can't be together because of the gang's war, but that doesn't stop them.
