The Merchant of Venice

By William Shakespeare

Directed by James Bohnen

American Players Theatre brings Shakespeare's Venice to Madison. In this disturbing and challenging play, Shakespeare creates two worlds--one is commercial, tough and fraught with commercial risk, run by men. The other is softer, magical and musical, where women predominate and wealth is secure. Issues of justice and mercy are considered and ethnic stereotypes are evident.
