The Last 5 Years
By Jason Robert Brown
Directed by Abe Gabor
The story explores a five-year relationship between Jamie Wellerstein, a rising novelist, and Cathy Hiatt, a struggling actress. The show uses a form of storytelling in which Cathy travels backwards in time (beginning the show at the end of the marriage), and Jamie travels forwards (starting just after the couple have first met). The characters do not directly interact except for a wedding song in the middle.

Character Descriptions:
JAMIE WELLERSTEIN - Late 20's/early 30's. Jamie is a successful author (his first book was published in his early 20’s) so he's self-assured and confident, but frustrated that Cathy can't be as effortlessly successful as he is. He wants to help her reach her goal, but by the end of their relationship he's given up. The vocal range is baritone to tenor,
CATHERINE HIATT - Late 20's/early 30's. Cathy is talented and knows it, but she's also lacking confidence from her theater career never really taking off the way she'd like. She wants the success that Jamie has and is not content to be "trotting along at the genius' heels" but is having trouble making that happen. The vocal range is mezzo-soprano.
