The Abortionist

By Joel Gersmann

Directed by Scott Feiner

The Abortionist: A Woman Against the Law is more relevant the ever. Based on the scholarship of Rickie Solinger, Joel Gersmann wrote a 1995 play on the life of Ruth Barnett, an abortion provider for 50 years, who “undid, a little, the privileged world of men,” all before Roe v. Wade.

Broom Street Theater’s 2023 revisitation of The Abortionist will be presented in Gersmann’s kinoplastic style. Actors will also play scenery and ‘animated’ inanimate objects (such as chairs with opinions) as well as numerous characters.

Produced by Broom Street Theater at Broom Street Theater, 1119 Williamson Street, Madison

Performances: January 20 - February 21, 2023
