Pounding Nails in the Floor with My Forehead
By Eric Bogosian
Directed by Whitney Derendinger
Whitney Derendinger stars in the one-man show: "Pounding Nails in the Floor with My Forehead" by Eric Bogosian
"Pounding Nails in the Floor with My Forehead" aims scorching social commentary at the contemporary urban and suburban scene as Bogosian reveals the hidden humor, fear, hypocrisy and rage of Americans.
"Pounding Nails" raises questions of "how much is enough," and "how much is too much?" It questions the obligation society has to take care of itself, and starts debate on how people can best take care of themselves. The audience will quickly recognize the characters, some because they are people who they despise, and others because they are loved ones; close, dear friends. What is wonderful about the characters -- and the debates they spark -- is the humanity they all contain. No matter how "out there" these characters get, there is an identifiable and personal grain of humanity at their core.
The characters in the show range from vagrants to investment bankers; self-help spineless men to whacko fans and artists; extremely conservative bigots to bleeding heart liberals. In this production, Whitney Derendinger provides a virtuosic tour de force solo performance bringing all these characters to life on stage.
