Our Better Angels: Where are they when we need them?
By Sandy Kintner
Directed by Sandy Kintner
This is a murder mystery dinner show at Buck and Honey’s restaurant. The show is partly scripted with lots and lots of room for inprov.
The scene is the Angell Savings and Loan employee appreciation dinner. To everyone’s surprise the president of the company, Roland Angell, has decided to use this moment to announce his retirement and who he will be handing the company over to. Among his choices are his trophy wife Abigail, his older and much maligned daughter, Annabelle, and his never do well son, Arthur. Unbeknownst to Roland, Abigail and the company’s lovesick account, Austin, have been conspiring to launder Chicago drug money through the company, thereby improving the Savings and Loan’s bottom line. When Billy, an enforcer for the Chicago gang, shows up demanding to know why there’s a delay in moving cash, a fight ensues with Roland. Billy is about is to run a shiv through Roland when Charlie, an angel, appears and intervenes to save Roland. All would appear to be well, but unfortunately Charlie isn’t the brightest angel in the sky, and a little while later Roland turns up dead…strangled with a shoe lace. Who did it? Well, everyone has a motive including the wild-child woman from the food cart, Katie, who Arthur brought as his plus one. Help Charlie as she interrogates the suspects trying to find the killer and perhaps earn a promotion from Angel 3rd class to Angel 2nd class.
