"Don't Hug Me"

The setting is Bunyan Bay, Minnesota. Cantankerous bar owner, Gunner Johnson, wants to sell the business and move to Florida. Clara, his wife and former Winter Carnival Bunyan Queen, wants to stay. Pretty waitress, Bernice Lundstrom, wants to pursue a singing career. Her fiancé, Kanute Gunderson, wants her to stay home. Then, on the coldest day of the year, a slick karaoke salesman arrives at the bar and all heck breaks loose! Musical numbers include “Walleye Woman in a Crappie Town,” “My Smorgasbord of Love, ” “Upside Down in My Pickup Truck,” “Victim of My ‘Y’ Chromosome” and “I Wanna Go to the Mall of America.”

Auditions

Auditions will be held on the following days:

There are roles for three men, from late 20s to 60, and two women, one 18-30 years old and one 45-60. All roles are open. Those auditioning must come with sheet music, prepared to sing a song. An accompanist will be provided. Recordings and unaccompanied singing are not permitted. Auditions will also consist of cold readings from the script.

Persons wishing to audition must sign up for a specific time slot. On Saturday, October 16, appointments are being scheduled at 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 p.m. On Sunday, October 17, the available times are 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. The location on both days is the Racine Theatre Guild, 2519 Northwestern Avenue.
