Bye Bye Birdie

Directed by DeeDee Bouzek

Stoughton High School students will perform the Tony award winning musical comedy, “Bye Bye Birdie” for the school’s fall musical.

This bright and bubbly Broadway musical takes you back to the ‘60s when rock n’ roll teen heartthrob Conrad Birdie is drafted into the Army. Before he heads overseas, his managers randomly pick a girl from his fan club in Sweet Apple, Ohio, to serenade and kiss on the Ed Sullivan Show for his grand goodbye. He shakes, rattles and rolls the town, and hilarity ensues.
“This is a great show for the whole family,” said DeeDee Bouzek, the show’s director, “It is full of classic rock-n-roll music, a technicolor set, and lovable characters.”

The cast is full of stage veterans. Emily Skavlen and Seth Charleston lead the cast masterfully as Albert Peterson and Rose Alverez. Brody McCloskey croons his way through the production as Conrad Birdie. Paige Sager tries out her comedic chops as the over bearing Mae Peterson. Alyssa Wicks and Nick Swenson play the sweet and innocent teen lovers Kim MacAfee and Hugo Peabody. Isaiah Rowley plays the high strung 1950s dad, Harry MacAfee, Kailee Whitmire plays Doris, his wife ala June Cleaver, and Noah Kleitsch rounds out the family as their son Randolph.

Ryan Casey is the vocal music director, Rachel Shields directs the pit orchestra, Makenna Parish Day choreographs the show and Amanda Potratz leads her stage crew in scenic design.
