Bad Dates
By Theresa Rebeck
Directed by Kate Buckley
The play opens to find Haley Walker desperately seeking just the right outfit for her first date in more than ten years. As she nervously dresses for the evening she tells us, the audience, the story of her life, her daughter, her divorce and subsequent move from Texas to New York City, and how she wound up managing a restaurant after her boss was dragged off by the FBI for using the restaurant as a front for a money-laundering operation. Haley makes it through this date (which turns out to be a disaster) and several other dismal dating failures with her hopes shaken but her sense of humor firmly intact. But after she falls hard for a man who betrays her and her mobster boss is released from prison, Haley's situation seems hopeless. Just when things are at their worst, a ray of hope appears from the unlikeliest source possible...
