This Valentine season, share the thrills of theater's greatest romantics, poets, and warriors, telling tales of loves won and lost.

Madison Shakespeare Company's Valentine theatrical tradition returns in 2023, with more classic tales of love and passion from William Shakespeare and contemporaries. Featuring classic love scenes from the greatest romantic plays of all-time, plus the unpredictable comedy of improvised Sonnets From a Hat, this collection adds both sweet and salty notes to the day.

Auditions will be held on the following days:


These auditions are to fill two positions in our existing ensemble. We are looking for:

- A performer who would suit roles such as Juliet, Bianca (Taming), Isabella (Measure), and Hero (Much Ado).

- A performer who would suit roles such as Lady Capulet, Lady Macbeth, Cleopatra, Titania, and Beatrice (Much Ado).

If you do not consider yourself a good fit for roles like these, please join us for a future audition.

A Valentine's Affair, February 9-11 2023, 7:30 PM at Brink Lounge in Madison
Shakespeare's Lovers In June, June 3-4 2023, 2 PM at Tyranena Brewing in Lake Mills

Candidates who have never appeared in an MSC production will be asked to present a memorized Shakespearean monologue no longer than two minutes. Choose from any Shakespeare text that illustrates your capabilities and range.

Appointments begin at 6:30 PM on audition nights. Auditions to be held at Common Grace, 3565 Tulane Ave. in Madison.

All candidates may be asked to participate in scene readings available on https://madisonshakespeare.org/auditions .

There will be occasional table read and initial rehearsal sessions in November and December 2022, with regular rehearsals beginning January 2, 2023. After the close of A Valentine's Affair, there will be occasional brush-up rehearsals to prepare for Lovers In June. Please see the rehearsal conflict calendar on the MSC site for more details.

Candidates must be at least 18 years old as of November 20, 2022.
