Man of Destiny

By George Bernard Shaw

Directed by Ashley Duncan and Ruthanne Fiore

This spring, Upstart Crows will present a one-act play by George Bernard Shaw. The Man of Destiny is set in Italy during the career of Napoleon. The entire play takes place in an inn where Napoleon is resting after his victory at the Battle of Lodi. He is working on his plans and talking with the innkeeper when a lieutenant arrives and tells him that a young man tricked him and stole the dispatches he was carrying. A woman appears in the inn and claims that the dispatches were stolen by her brother, and what ensues is a battle of wits between Napoleon and the lady whom he claims is the real thief.
