Auditions

Auditions will be held on the following days:

3/4/2017

Music Theatre of Madison (MTM) and Four Seasons Theatre are holding General Auditions for our 2017 and 2018 productions. These companies focus on a variety of musical theatre, from treasured classics to contemporary pieces. Both companies perform at various venues around Madison.

General Auditions will take place on Saturday, March 4 from 1:30pm to 8:00pm at First Baptist Church, 518 N. Franklin Ave. Enter through the parking lot doors on Shepherd Terrace. Do NOT try to enter from Franklin Ave. That door will be locked. Advance audition signup is required!

Callbacks for shows for both Four Seasons Theatre and Music Theatre of Madison will be held at later dates. We will contact you if we’d like to see you at callbacks for future shows, but it may not be right away, particularly for shows that are scheduled further out. Please consult the anticipated callback dates in the breakdowns for more information.

HOW TO SIGN UP:
Advance audition signup is required. Both companies will be in the room at the same time so you only need to sign up for one audition time.
The audition signup link can be found here.

Video submissions for those who are unable to attend in person may be submitted to both info@fourseasonstheatre.com and auditions@mtmadison.com. Videos must be submitted no later than 5pm on Wednesday, March 1. E-mail submissions should follow the same guidelines as in person auditions and should include a completed audition form, a list of potential scheduling conflicts for summer and fall 2017, and a link to a video audition. Links are preferred rather than sending full video files.

WHAT TO PREPARE:
Please be sure to print out and complete the Audition Form in advance, and include a list of potential conflicts in summer and fall of 2017. (Conflicts can be tolerated within reason).

You will have two minutes to perform your audition pieces. Please adhere closely to this guideline. We may stop you if you go over. To make sure you stay within the time allotted, please bring two 16 to 32 bar pieces. One should be from a classic musical (pre-1970) and the other from a contemporary musical. Songs should contrast in vocal style and character. Please have your music clearly marked and in a three-ring binder with pages copied back to back. A professional accompanist will be provided. Acapella auditions are highly discouraged.

There will not be a dance call.

MTM’s second Festival of New Musicals contains readings of musical works still in development, submitted from across the country. This year’s shows are a rock musical retelling of Medea, a country western epic called Dumb Luck, and the acerbic, Gilbert & Sullivan-style Trumperetta.

HEPHAESTUS:
Music and Lyrics by Nathan Fosbinder Directed by Catie O’Donnell
Tentative workshop start date: Mid-June, 2018 Performances: July, 2018. Venue TBD.
All roles available. Equity and non-Equity contracts available.
In 2018, MTM will undertake its first full workshop process on a world premiere musical by Madison native Nathan Fosbinder. The production will be workshopped in summer, 2018. Feedback from audiences will culminate in a full production in 2019. (Loosely) based on Greek Myth, and telling specifically the story of lame-legged and much ignored Hephaestus, god of War (but not as much as Ares), God of Wisdom (but not as much as Athena), and master of blacksmithing!

FAR FROM HEAVEN
Music by Scott Frankel, Lyrics by Michael Korie, Book by Richard Greenberg
Directed by Meghan Randolph
Tentative rehearsal start date: August, 2018
Performances: September 2018 at the Fredric March Play Circle in the Wisconsin Union Most roles available (one offer pending). Equity and non-Equity contracts available.
The lush, complex score of Far From Heaven perfectly captures its sweeping themes of feminism, racism, and homophobia. Based on the Academy Award-nominated 2002 film, it is the story of Cathy, a seemingly perfect 1950s housewife whose life is unraveling behind closed doors. When she strikes up a friendship with an African-American man, the results are captivating, romantic, and devastating.
