Monona Academy of Dance

The Monona Academy of Dance offers its students unmatched excellence in dance education at all ability, interest, and age levels. Classes offered include Pre Ballet (3 years and up), Classical Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Tap, as well as the competition group "MAD City Dancers." Established under the guidance of Jo Jean Retrum and Jean Adams, the school expands its student's cultural education, and emotional, artistic and physical development through the art of dance. In order to better serve the community, Monona Academy has four locations in and around the Madison area. Locations include our main office in Monona, and our branch studio in Sun Prairie. At our Monona location, you will find La Boutique, where you can purchase any dancewear items you may need (including shoes, leotards, tights, accessories, etc.). Our store is run by an intelligent staff of dancers who are well rehearsed in the needs of a dancer. Many new items in weekly. Also skating apparel and gymnastic leotards.

Our teachers come from premier dance schools, companies, and colleges. We feel that there is more to be taught in a dance class than just steps. Our teachers are highly educated in many technique styles of ballet, jazz, modern, and tap, as well as injury prevention, correct body and foot alignment, dance history, and choreography. It is a truly holistic approach to dance.

A vital part of a dancer’s education is the performance. Monona Academy of Dance provides its students with a unique opportunity to participate in professionally staged productions that can include an orchestra and internationally acclaimed guest artists. There is also a recital at the end of each school year for the students to show their continued progress.
