Spring Awakening
By Frank Wedekind
Directed by Norma Saldivar
Written by a pioneer of German political theatre, this drama focuses on the sexual awakening of adolescents and the tragic cost of paternal oppression. The play was sensational and shocking when first produced at the turn of the twentieth century and still challenges and exhilarates audiences at the turn of the twenty-first with its unique mix of ironic humor, scathing social commentary, fantasy, tragedy and joy.
