The Artists

Featured soloist Kirill Bak, Principal Dancer & Faculty at Ballet Minnesota, studied at the Ballet Institute of Vaganova, St. Petersburg, where he performed frequently on the Kirov Stage. From 1985-1998, he performed with the Leningrad Ballet and the Mussorgsky Theatre Opera and Ballet. His solo for this production was previewed at Kanopy's last November concert in Nothing Else Matters. This solo was choreographed by Robert E. Cleary to Metallica's music as recorded by the popular international touring group, Apocalyptica, four young cellists from Finland. Also setting their choreography to the Metallica compositions are company members: Jennifer Jet jointly with Rachael Kravits; Lisa Andrea Thurrell, Artistic Director of Kanopy; and Merritt Yandell-Ahmad.

David Quinn, a Wisconsin native, has been designing in New York for dance and opera, and creating his own fashion collections. He has worked with the Mark Morris Dance Group, Doug Varone and Dancers, the Stanley Love Performance group, Dance as Ever, and Marjie Citron and Dancers. His work has been lauded in The New York Times and The Village Voice and described as "never at a loss for fresh fantasy."

Ede Thurrell has been dancing and teaching in New York City with several dance companies and frequently performs in her hometown Madison, with Kanopy and with KirOga Theatre. Kanopy has also presented her choreography. Her "Patsy" was particularly well received in Madison and on Kanopy's Tour around the State.

Kanopy and the Guest Artists will be available to answer questions and discuss their work at a talk-back with the audience after the Saturday performance. Kanopy Dance Company members are Christine Angevine; Heidi Bakken; Ann Christiansen; Robert E. Cleary; Lisa Nichole Decoteau; Jenifer Jet, Rachel Kravitz; Merritt Yandell-Ahmad and Lisa Andrea Thurrell. This concert is supported in part by a grant from the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission.
