Work the Act

By Danielle Dresden

Directed by Francisco Torres

Catskill humor meets performance art in this new comedy by Danielle Dresden for TAPIT/new works Ensemble Theater's 30th anniversary season. After a series of comic mishaps get them fired from a gig at the Holiday Inn in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, the Rolling Bag Players try to pass themselves off as an avant-garde theater troupe. Their new show -- "Take the Spanish Civil War... Please!" -- is a raging success, but the players are dissatisfied. They jump at the chance to return to their honest, baggy pants roots and perform as themselves once again.

4/12/2015

TAPIT/new works Ensemble Theater seeks one male lead actor and one female supporting actor/musician for its upcoming 30th anniversary production, Work the Act. The play follows the misadventures of the Rolling Bag Players, a struggling theater company. After a series of comic mishaps, they decide to re-invent themselves as an avant-garde performance group. The unlikely success of their transformation provokes even more surprising reactions from these misfit comics.

Performances will take place at the TAPIT/new works Studio Theater, 1957 Winnebago Street, Thursday – Saturday, May 28 – 30, and Friday – Saturday, June 5 – 6, at 7:30 PM, with a special 30th anniversary performance and reception at 3:00 PM, Sunday, June 7.

The male lead character is an ambitious, hyper performer. The female supporting actor/musician will portray a vaguely satanic agent and provide musical accompaniment. Preferred musical instruments include the ukulele, accordion or keyboard.

Auditions will be held Sunday, April 12, at 7:30 pm at TAPIT/new works Studio Theater, 1957 Winnebago Street in Madison

Actors will receive a fee for their work. Please contact Donna Peckett at info@tapitnewworks.org or 608-244-2038 with questions.
