Winter Fantasia - Kanopy Dance Company's 2018-19 "A Season of Festivals and Fetes"

By Kanopy Dance Inc.

Directed by Lisa Thurrell and Robert Cleary

Presented by Harms Insurance and Wisconsin’s 57 Television

Deck the Halls with Snow Fairies, Solstice Lights and Carols

As the snowflakes begins to swirl, and icicles dot the winter landscape, Kanopy presents two treasured December stories through dance; Once Upon a Winter’s Eve, and The Norse Tree of Life (Yggdrasil). In Winter’s Eve, a little girl wanders into a glade of trees to play at twilight. Amongst the glistening branches and glittery snow she happens upon the snow fairies and their queen. Accompanied by Benjamin Britten’s “Ceremony of Carols,” it’s a stunning tale of winter wonder. Deeper in Kanopy’s snowy forest, audiences will encounter ladies dancing gaily under a mighty Norse evergreen. To mark the season, a little girl brings and her friends drape the tree with garlands and yuletide decorations. Don’t miss these holiday gems!

Join Kanopy Dance for our 2018-2019 performances, which all feature celebrations — some tied to holidays and seasons, some simply expressing joy. And isn’t that what great dance is about? Translating emotions into movement that is more meaningful than words. Dance is naturally part of the rituals that mark the passage of time on the calendar — and the festivals that commemorate beginnings and endings, important milestones, change and growth. So celebrate with Kanopy throughout the year, as we create revels of all kinds onstage at Overture Center for the Arts.
