The Importance of Being Earnest

By Oscar Wilde

Directed by Carl Balson

The Importance of Being Earnest is Oscar Wilde's most popular gem among his l ist of great plays. It was first produced at the St. James Theatre on February 14th, 1895. Since then it has been produced numerous times with great success. The sub-title for this play is "A trivial Comedy for Serious People". It is a love story on one hand, with sharp commentary on the attitudes and manners of the so-called high society shown in the play. It is at the same time very funny, but also very insightful. If ever there was a classic, social comedy, this is a winner.
