Street Scene

By Score by Kurt Weill, Libretto by Langston Hughes

Directed by Kymberly Mellen, Musical Direction by Robert Gehrenbeck

Street Scene takes place in the 1930s outside a steamy New York City tenement building, but the heat generated inside fuels neighborhood gossip. Anna Maurrant is a woman trapped in a loveless marriage who seeks refuge in the arms of another man, ending in tragedy. This opera explores jealousy, infatuation, lust, and love set to a jazz-inspired score that reflects the multi-ethnic population of NYC.
