Sleuth

By Anthony Shaffer

Directed by Michael Mugnani

Janesville Little Theatre (JLT) presents Anthony Shaffer’s suspenseful mystery play, Sleuth, winner of the Tony® and Drama Critics Circle Awards for Best Play, May 2-5, 2013, at the Janesville Performing Arts Center.

Sleuth was was first presented at The Music Box in New York City on November 12, 1970. It is set in the Britain in the 1970s. The action plays out inside Andrew Wyke’s manor house residence, located in Wiltshire, south-west England (the home of Stonehenge and Avebury stone circles). Mr. Wyke is an immensely successful mystery writer and his home reflects his obsession with the inventions and deceptions of fiction and his fascination with games and game-playing. He lures his young wife's lover, Milo Tindle, to the house and convinces him to stage a robbery of her jewelry - a proposal that sets off a chain of events that leaves the audience trying to decipher where Wyke's imagination ends and reality begins. Sleuth is primarily a mystery/drama with some comedic elements.
