Shakespeare in Hollywood

By Ken Ludwig

Directed by Kathleen Tissot

During the making of Max Reinhardt's 1935 movie, "A Midsummer Night's Dream," two of the actors back out of the film. Due to a fanciful mishap, the "real" Oberon and Puck appear, and along with them, the hijinks and mixups of Shakespeare's play. Combine this with Will Hays and the Production Code, and some real and fictional characters from the 1935 movie, and you end up with situations that are charming, funny, and just a bit bawdy. Due to "Production Code" advice, parental guidance is suggested due to some sexual innuendo and references.
