Running in the Red
By Karl Tiedemann
Directed by Jeffrey Miller
WATERTOWN, WI—Maranatha Baptist Bible College returns to the golden age of radio comedy for its 2011 fall play, Running in the Red.
The play, written by Karl Tiedemann, introduces us to the vaudeville team of Jerry Walker (Michael Whitteberry) and Eve Williams (Deb Lew). As they stand on the brink of radio stardom, Eve begins to consider the worth of portraying a “dumb blonde” stereotype on radio vs. completing her psychology degree. Eve’s life then begins to unravel (in a comedic way). All of her money has somehow found its way into the hands of the Communist Party, a local newspaper columnist smells something fishy, and she must fight to preserve her impending marriage to a Yale professor.
The two-act play will be performed Nov. 10-12 at the Maranatha gymnasium. Humanities Department Chair Jeffrey Miller is the director and Hannah Pill the assistant director for the cast of 11.
“This play has a good combination of smart dialogue and slapstick humor,” Miller said. “It’s a blend that should appeal to almost everybody. “
Performances are at 7 p.m. Nov. 10-11-12, with a 2 p.m. matinee scheduled for Nov. 12.
