Oh God! There's Baptists at the Door!
By Heather Renken
Directed by Heather Renken
Maggie has no idea what has happened to her. A moment ago she was at the high school dance, but now has suddenly found herself in the sitting room of an odd Southern woman named Mae. Mae lives alone, but is never lonely, given the constant stream of "charming" guests coming through her door. Many have much to be desired when it comes to Southern hospitality, and none of them are quite what they seem on the surface in Heather Renken's funny and powerful new play Oh God, There's Baptists at the Door.
First time playwright Renken has worked at Broom Street over the years as an actor, stage manager, costume designer, technician, and more. Not only is this her first script, it is also her first time as a director at the theater. Renken has assembled a talented cast comprised of Broom Street veterans John Eichenlaub, Kathie Rasmussen, Ashley Sevedge, and Jennifer Poppy, along with newcomers Jeremiah Cook and Annie Jay. In addition a family, David M. Craig, his wife, Nancy E. Craig, and their son, Eric Craig, all make their Broom Street debuts in the production. Ben Emerick is the light designer and Brian Wild is the sound designer, with costumes by BST stalwart Ron Fisher.
