Auditions

Auditions will be held on the following days:

9/21/2014
9/22/2014

Sunday, September 21, 2014 at 2:00 pm and Monday, September 22, 2014 at 6:30 pm, Memories Dinner Theater will be holding auditions for its 2014 Christmas musical production, An L.M. Montgomery Christmas.

Due to the popularity of Memories’ holiday productions, performances have been added to the usual schedule of the “Send in the Weekend” series productions. There will be a total of nine performances December 5-20, 2014. For the first two weekends, performances will be on Friday evenings, Saturday matinees and evenings and Sunday matinees. On the weekend of December 20th, there is only one performance, which is a matinee on Saturday the 20th (there is no performance on Friday the 19th, or Sunday the 21st).

Adults auditioning will be asked bring a prepared musical selection of approximately 1-2 minutes in length, in the style of an upbeat, musical comedy piece or a ballad (please, no rock, pop or rap songs). An accompanist will be provided for those who supply their own sheet music, or an a capella audition is acceptable. Children auditioning may opt to bring a prepared piece, just as the adults are, or they will be taught a selection from the show to audition with. Adults and children auditions may also be asked to do a cold reading(s) from the script.

It is requested that all of those auditioning come prepared with their rehearsal availability and any known conflicts beginning in October, through December. The rehearsal schedule will begin in early-mid October and will occur 3-4 days per week, 6:30-9:00. Due to the ensemble nature of this production, cast members will likely need to be available for all rehearsals. Those wishing to be cast MUST be available for all performances. Compensation may be available, based on experience and ability.

The show synopsis, as well as a listing of characters and their vocal ranges, are listed below. Memories strongly encourages all interested actors and actresses to audition, regardless of the age and physical descriptions of the characters, as flexibility within casting is always an option. If there are any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact Memories at 262-284-6850 or via email to heather@memoriesballroom.com. Synopsis & Character Descriptions

This family-friendly feel-good holiday musical is the perfect way to welcome in the holiday season and fill your heart with the Christmas spirit. Be transported back in time to Christmas Eve, 1910, as passengers board a train to take them to their Christmas gatherings. When the train is halted by a blizzard, this diverse group of everyday folks, each with their own challenges, worries, and anxieties, are drawn together and rediscover the true meaning of Christmas.
Aunt Theodora: A 66-year-old jolly, charitable, generous, lovable woman who is very selfless, sensitive and wise. Vocal range: Low F-High G

The remaining cast members play two parts: the first their main role and the second the character they portray in the story told by Aunt Theodora.

Lucy Rose & Young Theodora: Lucy Rose is Theodora’s pretty, 18-year-old niece. Due to her age she is starting to take herself a bit too seriously and, probably due to insecurity, is a little full of herself. Young Theodora (Aunt Theodora at sixteen) displays the generous sensitivity which her aunt possesses as an adult. Vocal range: Low A-High G

Minister & Mr. Lurgen: Minister is a young, bookish, shabby clergyman who lacks self-confidence and is lonely yet positive. A neighbor of Young Theodora, Mr. Lurgen is a local Good Samaritan. Vocal range: Low A-High E

Shop Girl & Mrs. Lurgen: Young and a little shabby, Shop Girl also lacks self-confidence and is lonely yet hopeful. The wife of Mr. Lurgen, Mrs. Lurgen is just as kindly but can be a bit contrary. Vocal range: Low G-High E

Young Mother & Mrs. Benson: A widow with three children, Young Mother is a somewhat frazzled but very devoted parent. Mrs. Benson is a plump and happy shop owner. Vocal range: Low A – C (octave and a third)

Jimmy/Georgie: Jimmy is Young Mother’s 10-12-year-old son and Georgie is Aunt Elizabeth’s son at the same age. Both are a bit precocious and extremely inquisitive. Vocal range: Low A – C (octave and a third)

Tommy/Jack: Tommy is Young Mother’s 8-10-year-old son and Emma’s twin, while Jack is Aunt Elizabeth’s son at the same age. Both are typical little boys who delight in the joys of childhood. Vocal range: Low A – C (octave and a third)

Emma/Sara: Emma is Young Mother’s 8-10-year-old daughter and Tommy’s twin, while Sara is Aunt Elizabeth’s daughter at the same age. Both are typical little girls who delight in the joys of childhood. Vocal range: Low A – C (octave and a third)

Mrs. Kindernein & Aunt Elizabeth: Lonely at Christmas because her husband is always busy, Mrs. Kindernein is wealthy and somewhat pompous and demanding. Aunt Elizabeth, Young Theodora’s aunt, is a distraught mother of three who for lack of funds cannot give her children all that she would like. Vocal range: Low G-High F#

Valet &Conductor & Mr. Benson: Valet is an efficient manservant. The train Conductor is warm, sensitive, and patient, but also business-like. Mr. Benson is a plump, jovial and almost too generous shop owner. Vocal range: Low A-High F

Young Soldier & Donald: A veteran missing one arm, Young Soldier is very self-conscious and so proud that he continually refuses help from others. So sensitive, kind, loving and generous to his sister, Aunt Theodora, Donald could be called the ideal older brother. Vocal range: Low G-High G
