An Adult Evening of Shel Silverstein

By Shel Silverstein

Directed by George Gonzalez

An Adult Evening… will feature some of Silverstein’s best one acts including The Best Daddy about a little girl who does not understand why her new birthday pony is under a blanket and not moving, and Blind Willie and the Talking Dog, which tells the tale of a poor, street performing Blues singer who disregards the goldmine at his feet. This show is meant for adult audiences with a great sense of humor. Conservative thinkers may be easily offended.

The one-acts will be directed by Producing Director, George Gonzalez, and will be performed with 6 actors (3 men/3 women) playing multiple roles.

Madison will get a taste of The Bricks programming with their production of An Adult Evening of Shel Silverstein, by Shel Silverstein, this October at The Frequency, 121 West Main Street, Madison, WI. Silverstein, a native of Chicago, is best known for his children’s books such as THE GIVING TREE, WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS, and A LIGHT IN THE ATTIC. As an artist, Silverstein has represented and excelled in almost every field from cartoonist and songwriter, to author, composer, poet and playwright. His work includes the penning of “A Boy Named Sue” for Johnny Cash, numerous cartoons for Playboy magazine, music composition for the film Ned Kelly, and over 100 one act plays. His first play The Lady or the Tiger Show first premiered off-Broadway in NYC in 1981. Shel Silverstein died in 1999 of a massive heart attack at age 68 and in 2001, as a tribute to Silverstein An Adult Evening of Shel Silverstein was produced by friend and co-founder of the Atlantic Theatre Company in Chicago, David Mamet.
