Tania Tandias Flamenco & Spanish Dance



Tania Tandias Flamenco & Spanish Dance Company is based in Madison, WI and specializes in dance forms from Spain, including both flamenco and classical Spanish styles. As a company, Tania Tandias Flamenco & Spanish Dance has performed at many theaters, festivals and schools around the state, including the Madison Opera’s Carmen and La Traviata, the Madison Area Dance Festival, The Overture Center’s International Festival and Musical Memories series, Art Fair on the Square, WI Conservatory of Music, and with Kanopy Dance Company.

Classes are held at Kanopy Dance Studio, 341 State St. 2nd Floor above the GAP, Madison, Wisconsin, unless noted otherwise.

All classes will include instruction in flamenco dance technique, which includes footwork, arm and hand work, rhythmic hand-clapping and turns.

Classes are open to both women and men. Partners are not necessary. Adult classes are open to students aged 12 years and up.

Discounts: FEES CAN BE PRORATED TO ACCOMMODATE SUMMER VACATION PLANS!
There will be a $20 discount for taking more than one class and an early-bird discount if students register by July 3rd (does not apply to students who prorate their classes).

SESSION 1: JUNE 15- JULY 27

Beginning Class
Students will learn the basics of the "baile flamenco", which include compás (rhythm), footwork, arm & handwork, turns, and choreography.
Thursday 6:00-7:00 pm, June 15- July 27, no classes July 6 & 13
Fee: $68 (5 sessions)

Advanced Beginning Class
In this class, students will continue to build their knowledge of flamenco dance through more challenging technique exercises. Compás (rhythm) and choreography will also be taught.
Thursday 7:00-8:15 pm, June 15-July 27, no classes July 6 & 13
Fee: $75 (5 sessions)

Ongoing Intermediate Class
In this class, dancers will focus on intermediate-level technique drills, combinations, and choreography.
Monday 5:15-6:45 pm, June 19- July 24, no classes July 3 & 10
Fee: $66 (4 sessions)

Ongoing Intermediate Class with Company Rehearsal
Monday 5:15-7:45 pm, June 19- July 24, no classes July 3 & 10
Fee: $80 (4 weeks)

AUGUST SUMMER INTENSIVE WITH GUEST INSTRUCTOR DANICA SENA


About the guest instructor: Danica Sena

Internationally-acclaimed Master flamenco and Spanish dance teacher/choreographer/performer, Danica Sena, has created and performed over 200 original works for television, independent film and stage in Spain (where she resided for a decade), Japan, Mexico, Czech Republic, Hawaii and all states of the continental U.S. Her intrinsic cultural understanding of the art she imparts combined with a unique methodology, musicality and passion for teaching has made her one of the most-solicited in her field. In 2012 she received the great honor of guest teaching for one month in Madrid, Valencia and Castellon, Spain. Ms. Sena has been a proud faculty member of ODC School in San Francisco since 2004 and acts regularly as adjunct faculty at OBT, Dominican University and USF. Danica Sena was also recently awarded the 2014 San Francisco Bay Area Dancers’ Choice Award.


Summer intensive classes with Danica will culminate in a Summer Student Showcase at Kanopy Dance Studio on Sunday, August 27th.

Students will learn the basics of the "baile flamenco", which include compás(rhythm), footwork, arm & handwork, turns, and choreography for the festive bulerías.
2 sessions/week

Advanced Beginning Class- alegrías
In this class, students will continue to build their knowledge of flamenco dance through more challenging technique exercises. Compás (rhythm) and choreography will also be taught.

Fee: $120 (8 sessions)

Bata de Cola Technique Class
In this class, dancers will focus on learning how to manipulate the bata de cola through technique drills and exercises. Short combinations incorporating the use of the bata de cola and footwork drills will also be included.
*Although students are expected to provide their own batas, please inquire if you are interested in class but unable to purchase your own.
*This class is open to advanced beginning & intermediate-level dancers, or consent of instructor.

SINGLE MASTERCLASS!

Intro to Flamenco Dance!

Come learn this exciting dance with master teacher, Danica Sena, during this one-day fun and easy intro to flamenco dance workshop for new beginners! Along with a short dance combination, students will also explore the fundamentals of flamenco technique: percussive footwork, handclapping, armwork and hand movements.
