Madison Contact Improvisation Jam
Contact Improvisation is an improvised dance form that originated in the early 1970s and is now practiced in community "jams" all over the globe. A good place to learn more about Contact Improvisation on the web is at: www.contactimprov.net. Information about contact improv in the Great Lakes area, including workshops and retreats, can be found at www.glaciercontactimprov.com.
The Madison Contact Improvisation Jam meets at Main Street Yoga, 1882 E. Main Street, just off First Street between E. Washington and Winnebago. We meet on Sundays from 4:30-6:30 pm. Suggested donation of $7-12 covers our rent. This jam includes an opening circle "check in", facilitated warm-up, and facilitated instruction on topics such as weight sharing, lifting, safe falling, perception, fluid dancing, etc. Facilitation is adjusted to meet the needs of those who attend and always includes some open dance time. Newcomers to the form are as welcome as long-time C.I. practitioners.
